Boom all good.īefore I attempted the above steps, I logged into my iCloud account on the web, went to reminders, and attempted to delete all previously cleared to do's. Close and reboot for good measure, then reselect reminders and open the app. I had to do the same on my iPhone: Settings, iCloud settings (my face :-) iCloud, unselect reminders. Close and open reminders on the MacBook and the app showed the upgraded lists. I went to System Preferences, Apple ID, then unchecked reminders. Now, on my MacBook, the reminders showed one list "_untitled_", but the app was upgraded.

Once I did that, the upgrade took on the iMac. I had a few moments during the upgrade attempt to do this. If you happen to see a different list appear, and it is shared, unshare it and/or remove yourself from sharing. Have the sharer unshare the list with you, then on your Mac, attempt the upgrade to reminders. I could no longer see the shared list while in a "pre-upgrade" state. I had upgraded her reminders a few hours before attempting to upgrade mine. I had shared one with my wife, and she one with me. What I believe was the cause was shared reminder lists. This may be a repost from me, doesn't look like my first attempt took, but: I hope this information is useful to create a remedy for this situation ASAP. I've tried clicking all three (iMac, iPad, iPhone) blue Upgrade buttons as close to the same time as possible.
If I click it, I get the welcome screen, the new list constructs itself, and then the cycle continues. When the old list is visible, the blue Upgrade button also appears.
One appears, stays for a minute or so, then the reminders all disappear and the other list appears. The iMac appears to be in a cycle: as long as the Reminders app is open, it cycles between the two versions of my reminders list. After about a minute, they revert to the old list.
When I click the button, I get the welcome screen, select Upgrade Now, and I see the new reminders.

The iPhone and iPad Pro Reminders apps open with the old list and a blue Upgrade button. The Watch has two reminders lists by the same name, one containing my old reminders and one containing my new reminders. When I opened the Reminders app, it said there was a cool update, but I couldn't have it because my iMac wasn't running Catalina. I started by getting a new phone, which came with iOS 13.
